CicLAvia 2015 Pasadena: Old Town, New Feel
On Sunday 40,000+ people took to the streets of Pasadena to experience Old Town the way it used to be - free of cars and bustling with people. Few remember when Pasadena wasn’t a car-town but, before 1900, cycling was king! In fact, the Pasadena Freeway was originally conceived and constructed as the California Cycleway, a raised wooden bikeway running from Pasadena to Highland Park. With the rise of the car (and the SoCal oil and gas lobby), the cycleway died, but Sunday brought a happy reminder of what used to be - and what could be again if we commit to complete streets.
