The Pure City Tour: Stop 2, Bourbon St.
Welcome to our second installment of the Pure City Tour!
Last week, after I posted the first installment, I was trying to figure out which street to do next. In all my brilliant knowingness, I decided that I’d go about it like this was an actual bike tour. So, I’d head east to the next closest city and then go from there. That was before I looked at a map…
…then I looked at a map…and I realized that Madison, WI, home of Langdon Street, is almost due north of New Orleans, LA, home of Bourbon Street. And just like that, my Wednesday got way more interesting.
I pulled up some mapping software (yes, it was Google maps…if you read our last blog post, you might know why) and started doing some plotting…woohoo!
Want some fun facts about distances between random cities? Sure you do!
So, to hit New Orleans first, I was looking at 1,965 miles to Louisiana, 1,069 miles north to Madison, and then 1,129 miles to New York, home of Crosby Street. That’s 4,163 miles total.
To go from Los Angeles to Madison would be 2,173 miles, Madison to New Orleans would be 1,072 miles, and then 1,475 miles over and up to the Big Apple, a grand total of 4,720 miles.
That means, all in all, the shortest distance would be going to New Orleans first. Now, I know that doesn’t take into account a lot of factors, like proper route planning, elevation changes, etc., but hey, it’s a hypothetical journey on a city bike, what do you want from me? Plus, checked on a good ol’ map (yep, Google again!) and discovered that New Orleans is actually west of Madison, meaning geographically, it all makes sense.
So, now that all that’s out of the way, why Bourbon street you ask? Well, I’m going to keep this short and sweet for a change.
Let’s be honest, no street out there is more synonymous with having a good time than Bourbon Street. And that’s the same feeling we want people to have when they hop on one of our city bikes. Just cruising, feeling like every day is Mardi Gras. Plus, with its porter bike styling, the Bourbon is perfect for a pub run, grocery run, or just every day fun run.
And that, my friends, is why we called it the Bourbon. Now, to hop on my own Pure City for the 1,069 imaginary miles to Madison.
See ya in Wisconsin!
